Are You Focusing Too Much on Function?
When we become hyper-focused on goals and habits and productivity and usefulness, we often neglect the things that inspire us, the things that draw us in and hold us there, the things we used to sink into and enjoy.
Every act becomes a task, becomes something to tick off as quickly as possible so that we can move to the next one.
Instead of walking, we drive — it’s faster. Instead of savouring flavours, we start counting calories. Instead of losing ourselves in a book, we start counting pages.
We become so obsessed with function that we forget to appreciate form.
We forget that the shape and flavour and beauty and experience of something has value of its own.
We forget that while function makes us feel useful, form is what makes us feel whole.
