The Unsettling Truth About Summer Days
The unsettling truth about summer days is that they cannot last.
Only the naive, who haven’t before seen the turning of seasons, will think summer lasts forever. Naïveté is sweet and innocent and occasionally beautiful, but it is how we get ourselves into trouble.
Naïveté is thinking that the way things are is the way they will always be. And this can be fatal.
But equally tragic is the plight of those who so fear naïveté that they over-plan and over-prepare and over-agonize until they can no longer see the sun of summer for fear of the dark of winter. Yes — it is tragic to find yourself unable to enjoy what is brought to you today simply because it will be gone tomorrow.
The only way to ride the passing of the seasons is to value each one even more because of its brevity. You must find the balance between enjoying what is here and planning for the time when it is no longer.
The good days won’t last, but neither will the bad.
