Why You Get So Distracted

We speak about getting distracted as if it is a passive action, an automatic reaction, an uncontrollable reflex. But getting distracted is a choice.

Letting ourselves be distracted is synonymous with distracting ourselves.

We distract ourselves when the task at hand feels too difficult, too overwhelming, too cognitively demanding. When it asks too much of us.
